KOVAŠKI ŠMAREN 2025 - BLACKSMITH'S LADY DAY 2025
A traditional event of Kropa blacksmiths with exhibitions, demonstrations of forging and a fair of local crafts.
Kropa, a place below Jelovica, has been a mining, charcoal, iron, nail and truck settlement for centuries. The people gave it a special touch. Life was hard, the workday was long, lasting up to 16 hours a day. The income was poor, it was difficult to survive on it.
In 1705, with the help of a miracle, they gained hope that things would get better for once. That year, seven boys found an image of Mary of the Merciful Heart and set up an altar to her. Later, the church of St. Mother of God was built on this site, which the Kropa people call Kapelca. The day of its consecration, July 2, became the holiday of Kropa workers, the smithy Šmaren.
This year's celebration has included cultural, ethnological, sporting, entertaining and social events. We will cook charcoal, we will melt iron ore collected on Jelovica into wrought iron, a blacksmith in a forge will forge a nail and an artistic blacksmith a sculpture, old Kropar dishes will be cooked in taverns. We will learn about the life of Kropar in the past in the Blacksmith Museum, the Vice forge and the Fovšaritnica museum house.
