MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DAYS SHOWCASE ENGINEERING INNOVATIONS AND FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES
The Technical Museum of Slovenia in Bistra near Vrhnika hosted Mechanical Engineering Days from 22 to 27 September 2026, organised by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana. Weekday events were aimed at school groups, while Sunday was open to the general public.
Visitors explored various fields of mechanical engineering, including collaborative robotics, virtual welding, laser technologies, materials testing, friction and wear research. They also tried flight and drone simulators and learned about hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Student projects attracted particular attention. The Superior Engineering team presented its Triglav electric race car, which won second place at Formula Student Spain 2026. The Edvard Rusjan Team presented its Brvinc aircraft, which won first place at the international Design/Build/Fly competition in the USA. Both projects demonstrated how students combine engineering knowledge to develop innovative solutions.
Mechanical Engineering Days highlight the importance of cooperation between the Technical Museum of Slovenia and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The event is part of the museum’s Science and Technology Days project, which has been running since 2002. Its main aim is to promote science and technology among young people by connecting theory with practice. In cooperation with institutions in science and technology, the project links museum collections and technical heritage with present-day achievements and future developments, inspiring young people to explore these fields and consider careers in engineering.
