Smart Autonomous Quality Control for More Reliable Production

At the Centre for Digitalisation, operating within Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto, an innovation titled Smart Autonomous Quality Control was developed together with partners CNC Borštnar d.o.o. and 3D-ING d.o.o. The solution combines robotics, 3D scanning, and artificial intelligence, addressing one of the key challenges in small-series production of metal products: how to ensure reliable quality control for products that frequently change and are technologically demanding.

The system enables automatic quality inspection of each individual product, without complex programming or the need for specialised operator expertise. Based on a photograph, artificial intelligence creates a simplified 3D model of the product, recognises its shape, and automatically determines the optimal scanning path. This enables faster implementation of quality control even in production environments where series are smaller and products change frequently.

The solution allows companies to transition from sample-based inspection to 100% quality control. This means fewer defects, fewer complaints, less rework, and greater production reliability. It is particularly important for components used in safety-critical systems, where even minor deviations can affect the performance of the final product.

In the project, Rudolfovo contributed research and development expertise in artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital technologies, and applied key algorithms for product recognition and scanning path planning. For the innovation, the partners received a gold award as one of the best Posavje innovations of 2026, and the solution also advanced to the national level of awards for the best innovations of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia.
