Development of Prototypes of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles for Swarm Operation – SABUVIS II

With the support of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovenian team comprised researchers from the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport (Department of Maritime Studies), the Faculty of Computer and Information Science (Laboratory of Artificial Visual Cognitive Systems), and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (Laboratory of Robotics), as well as industrial partners MIL Sistemika d.o.o. and TIMTEC d.o.o. as system integrator.

Together, they developed a prototype dual-use autonomous underwater system for the inspection and protection of port infrastructure, seabed exploration, detection and localisation of underwater mines and unexploded ordnance, and the detection and tracking of underwater intruders. Advanced underwater localisation methods supported by artificial intelligence are used to determine the vehicle’s position and orientation. The project links the Slovenian scientific research sector with the defence industry, aiming to strengthen long-term industrial competencies in this field and enhance the strategic role of the Republic of Slovenia in the development of innovative defence technologies.
